Singapore’s stances on Promoting Religious Harmony

We have understood what religious harmony is, it’s impact on the world, and some countries that follow this value, and, Singapore, being one of the countries following and promoting these values, we need to know what keeps their harmony alive.

Singapore has taken it upon their hands to put a lot of effort in this field, and we are going to know some of the most prominent ones in the country.

The Loyang Tua Pek Kong Temple was built as a Chinese temple which not only has Buddhist deities, but also has a Hindu sanctum with a Muslim kramat. It has break-fasting sessions for Ramadan, a synagogue and the Islamic Holy Month.

Another step that Singapore had taken, which we talked about in some of the recent blogs, was the Religious Harmony Act. This action was taken to maintain religious tolerance in the country. The Maintenance Of Religious Harmony Act(MRHA) was enacted in 1990 to follow these values in the country. It was divided on two main principles:

1. Followers of different religions should exercise tolerance and acceptance towards each other and their beliefs, and not oppose any religions.

2. Religions and politics should be kept separate.

These principles are relevant today. The MRHA was further updated to help MHA respond to incidents of religious hatred or disharmony.

These were some small steps taken by Singapore to get a big and major change in all the societies in the country.” Harmony among our different religions traditions is essential for world peace”. That was all from my side, Darshit for today. Bye, and have a good day ahead. #ReligiousHarmony #Singapore
