Hello everyone. We are sorry for not writing many blogs in the past few days, but this is one for you now.
Friends, we are talking about one of the most attractive religious place in Punjab, none other than, the Golden Temple. The Golden Temple is in Amritsar, Punjab. It is also known as the Harmandir Sahib and the Darbar Sahib. It is a gurudwara and is a prominent spiritual site of Sikhism as well.
It is an open house of worship for all people, from all walks of life and faith. Now, let’s talk about the architecture and the placing of The Golden Temple. It is surrounded by a man-made pool, and has a square plan, with four entrances, and a path for circumambulation path around the pool. The four entrances of the Sikh temple symbolise in equality. Over 150,000 people visit the holy shrine everyday for worship. The gurudwara is nominated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Golden Temple looks the best in twilight.
Bathing in the pool is believed by many Sikhs to have restorative powers, purifying one’s karma. Some people carry bottles of the pool water home for sick friends and family members.
Now, talking about its architecture of the temple, it has two floors, and the Sikh Scripture Guru Granth Sahib sits on the lower floor for about 20 hours a day. The ground floor is filled with white marble. It is said that it was built by Maharaja Ranjit Singh a brave Sikh ruler. The temple is covered by 24 karat-gold.
The Golden Temple remains to be one of the most famous places of Amritsar, Punjab, making it a vital tourist place.
“Rivers, ponds, lakes, and streams. They have different names, but all contain water. Religions have different names, but all contain truth.”
Thank you!
The architecture of this shrine is just simply magnificent. And the different beliefs and faiths of it tell me a lot about diversity.
